Lily Collins embarks on a thoroughly modern fairy tale with her first starring role,
as a sword-fighting, prince-saving Snow White.
When Lily Collins arrived for her first costume fitting as Snow White on the Montreal set of Mirror Mirror, she assumed the most fabulous getups would go to her co-star Julia Roberts, who plays the evil queen. “I saw all these dramatic, colourful, amazing outfits and I thought, ‘Wow, Julia’s so lucky,’” says the 23-year-old British-born actress who’s best known for playing Sandra Bullock’s daughter inThe Blind Side. “And then they started bringing them in, and I said, ‘Is this for me?’ The first outfit took 25 minutes to get into, and when I looked in the mirror I got teary-eyed.” Then there were the elaborate sets; she describes a giant indoor forest and 40 tons of salt for snow. “I was sprinting through this huge room of trees, in my ball gown, sword-fighting, going up cliffs,” she marvels. “When the crew brought their kids onto set, they would see me and start crying. They were like, ‘Blanche Neige!’”

Here’s some excerpts from her interview:
On balancing her classes at USC & filming The Blind Side:
“I did my first semester during the second half of the school year, and then Blind Side happened. I didn’t want to leave and not have that time count, so I had to write 10 extra papers and Skype with teachers, all while I was on set. And I had to fly back for finals. It was kind of really difficult.”
On being persistent & proving herself in the business:
“I have a mentality of taking a situation and making it the best it can be. From being 16 and going into boardrooms and having to prove myself, I understand the process of shocking people. They see one thing when you walk in, and hopefully they see something else when you leave.”

In the issue she talks making her own name in Hollywood, despite having a famous dad (Genesis/solo artist Phil Collins):
“A lot of people’s perception is that I don’t have to work my way to get in a room because someone is always interested in the last name. I feel very lucky to have grown up the way I did, but now it’s kind of up to me what I do with my life.”
She also talks her new role as Snow White in Mirror Mirror:
“For me playing Snow White was a crazy dream come true, because I’ve always been someone who would read books and then go and make a movie in my head.”

In the issue Lily talks her celeb crushes:
“It’s weird to have celebrity crushes now because I could actually meet them or work with them! When I was younger it was definitely Leo DiCaprio in Titanic. I had pictures of him and I had ‘NSYNC posters. I had the biggest crush on Justin Timberlake.”
