NBC’s hit show Chuck is back with new episodes and complex storylines. Here’s a recap from the season 4 premiere that aired Sept. 20:

We get a flashback of 1994 with a younger Chuck getting read a bedtime story from his mom. She tells him she’s going away for a couple of days but she’ll be back. Chuck’s mom is played by Linda Hamilton.

Present time: 2010 Chuck house: he tells Morgan he needs his help to find him mom. They will both search for her together. Chuck says they can’t tell anyone about their “rogue” search. Sarah gets ready for her business trip, Morgan is already out the door for the “rogue” search. Casey also joins Sarah for the trip.

Chuck and Morgan go on a world search, country after country as their search continues they end up in L.A. to his mom’s safehouse. As Chuck enters the code, the door opens and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Chuck feels defeated as he can’t believe he didn’t find his mom, there is however a take-out menu and a surveillance camera and it turns out Chuck’s mom is watching him. As they leave they get held up by a repo man played by Harry Dean Stanton with a gun who leaves with Morgan’s ride.

In Hong Kong Casey and Sarah trap some dude named Marco played by Dolph Lundgren. He has some sort of device that blackouts (EMP) Hong Kong. Sarah punches him and they take the suitcase with the EMP.

Back at Chuck’s Morgan decides to cheer up Chuck and talks to him about sexting Sarah. Chuck heads out on many unsuccessful job interviews as he promised Ellie he’d get a normal job and quit the spy business. Chuck thinks there’s a conspiracy against as no one wants to hire him.

Him and Morgan head to Buy More to get jobs and are greeted by Greta played by Olivia Munn. Chuck heads to meet the “manager” General Beckman. She shows him around and tells him the Buy More is now a CIA NSA substation. The General admits she changed her mind and Chuck is back in the spy game.

Chuck, Sarah, and Casey are all reunited in the basement of Buy More, it’s just like old times. Chuck flashes on the EMP. Sarah wants to talk to Chuck about the provocative picture Morgan took of him, it’s their 6/9 month anniversary.

Chuck and Morgan head to the impound lot where Morgan’s car is, and they find the menu that was left in the safehouse. It turns out the menu is for buying weapons.

Chuck and Morgan head to Russia as Casey & Sarah head to Venezuela. Marco is on their flight and a sleepy gas fills the plane. Everyone is now headed to Moscow. Casey and Sarah are tied up in a weird location with Marco hovering over them, he works for Volkoff. Marco tells Casey and Sarah that he’s actually looking for the “master spies” Chuck and Morgan. The former save Casey and Sarah, as Chuck finally tells everyone he’s looking for his mom. Chuck decides to forgo the search for his mom and uses the EMP to disable the electrical circuits in the building so they can all escape. They get a ride on a Russian bus and head home.

Sarah and Casey decide they will join Chuck and Morgan to help search for his mom. Chuck decides to tell Ellie that he’s looking for their mom.  She tells Chuck she’s pregnant and that “she’s really happy right now.” Back in Chuck’s room Sarah shows Chuck a document that reveals his mom code name “Frost” was actually captured.

Marco tells Chuck’s mom that her family is looking for her, she shoots him, and he tells her he “has a family,” to which she replies, “So do I,” and shoots again.
